Young people with Down's Syndrome and Enagás employees reforest the Monte Blanco area in La Manga del Mar Menor

· Professionals from Enagás' Cartagena plant have taken part in a reforestation project alongside a group of people with a disability.

· This initiative exemplifies the company's commitment to the integration, both social and in the workplace, of disabled people whilst contributing to the sustainable developments of the  environments in which we operate.

Murcia, 30 September 2014.- Enagás has demonstrated its social and environmental commitment through a corporate volunteering activity in Murcia. Employees from Enagás' regasification plant in Cartagena received brief training in corporate volunteering with people with disabilities provided by professionals from the Adecco Foundation.

Having received a grounding in theory, it was time to get down to work and the volunteers set off for Manga del Mar Menor along with a group of young people with Down's Syndrome from the Asido Cartagena association to work together on a reforestation project that involved the planting of around 200 trees of various indigenous varieties in the Monte Blanco area. These included Phoenician juniper, large-fruited juniper, mastic and sandarac.

For an entire day, Enagás' professionals and the disabled people, supported by the Adecco Foundation, shared an experience that not only allowed them to get away from their day-to-day routines but to build understanding and debunk misconceptions and social stereotypes. 

The initiative also gave the young people with Down's Syndrome the opportunity to come into contact with the business world and to develop their social and communication skills, which are crucial for social integration.

According to Susana Toril, at Enagás' Director of Employment Relations and Prevention: "When the Adecco Foundation proposed this activity to us we didn't think twice before accepting because it is perfect for our requirements. 

On the one hand, the project helps to raise awareness among our professionals regarding the importance of inclusiveness in the workplace and, on the other, it demonstrates our commitment to to environmental conservation in the communities in which we are present.

Juan Pablo Martínez, the coordinator from the Adecco Foundation, added that "activities of this kind not only enable us to raise awareness among a large number of employees but also provide us with the opportunity to improve the labour skills of the group of people with a disability taking part, all with the aim of achieving their future integration in a regular workplace. And equally important, all those involved get to share a wonderful experience.
