Mayte Nonay, Director of Strategy and Planning at Enagás, emphasises the need to advance the regulatory framework in order to accelerate the development of new hydrogen networks
Mayte Nonay, Director of Strategy and Planning at Enagás, has emphasised that energy infrastructure acts as a catalyst for the economy. “Networks, in general, do not merely transmit energy. Networks attract industry, jobs and investment”, she said during her participation at the 4th Energy Transition Forum organised by El Periódico de la Energía, held in Madrid on 24 September.
“Energy networks are enablers of the market and of demand”, she said, emphasising that having the necessary infrastructure and visibility is key to driving new projects and attracting investment.
Nonay highlighted that the Spanish gas system boasts robust, flexible and diversified infrastructure, emphasising its strategic importance in supporting the electricity system and in integrating renewable gases such as biomethane and green hydrogen, both now and in the future.
In this regard, she emphasised the importance of ensuring that the development of new networks, such as those for green hydrogen, is accompanied by a regulatory framework that provides visibility and certainty for investments.
Mayte Nonay took part in the round-table discussion The moment for infrastructure: Spain, faced with the need for a more robust energy system, which was attended by Endesa’s General Manager of Infrastructure and Networks, José Manuel Revuelta; Cuerva’s Director of Regulation and Strategy, Juan Luis Guerrero; Naturgy’s Director of Legal Services and Regulation at Redes Electricidad España, Juan José Picón; Schneider Electric’s Director of Strategic Accounts, Manuel Lisón; and Iberdrola’s Deputy Director of Regulation, Rafael del Río. The discussion was moderated by Sandra Acosta, Editor-in-Chief of El Periódico de la Energía.
