  • The CEO of Enagás has stressed that “the most competitive green hydrogen in Europe will be produced in the Iberian Peninsula”

The CEO of Enagás, Arturo Gonzalo, highlighted that the new political stage in Europe reinforces the commitment to green hydrogen and its infrastructures. “Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, considers the creation of a European green hydrogen network a priority, as it is an essential requirement for strategic autonomy, decarbonisation, and competitiveness”, he stated during his intervention at the 1st Energy Observatory of El Español, held in Madrid from the 25 to the 27 November.

In a conversation with the deputy editor of El Español-Invertia, the CEO also stressed that the appointment of Teresa Ribera as Executive Vice-President for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition is “great news” for the development of hydrogen. Likewise, he mentioned Sara Aagesen, Third Vice-President of the Government of Spain and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, who, from our country, will provide “all the support and guidance to this great European endeavour in this new stage”.

During the session “The challenges of the gas network for green hydrogen” the CEO of Enagás added that “Spain has the opportunity to be the great hub of green hydrogen in Europe to ensure a sustainable competitive supply for Spanish industry” and for the rest of the EU.

“The most competitive green hydrogen in Europe will be produced in the Iberian Peninsula”, he remarked so as to highlight the importance of the H2med corridor and the Call for Interest driven by the five TSOs promoting the project (REN, Enagás, GRTgaz, Teréga and OGE). This market consultation will be open until 18 December and represents “the first stage of a process that will lead to a binding open season that will be launched in 2025”.
