Enagás’ Director of Strategy and Planning, Mayte Nonay, highlighted the pivotal role of green hydrogen in the European agenda amidst the current geopolitical landscape. “Green hydrogen is fundamental for the strategic and energy autonomy of the European Union”, Nonay stated at the IV Encuentro Expansión Energía, which took place on Monday 13 April in Madrid.
At a time when geopolitical tensions in Iran highlight the need to speed up the energy transition, green hydrogen is a vital component of this process. “We are experiencing a clear regulatory, investment and industrial take-off in hydrogen”, said the Enagás director, highlighting the latest major hydrogen project operations that place Spain in a very relevant position on the European energy map.
“Spain is destined to become a reference hub for hydrogen in Europe”, she stressed, citing positive factors such as its geographical location and the robustness of its infrastructure. Nonay highlighted the development of the H2med corridor, which “is progressing on schedule”, and which is set to connect the Iberian Peninsula with central Europe.
Mayte Nonay took part in a hydrogen roundtable discussion, which was also attended by Javier Brey, President of the Spanish Hydrogen Association (AeH2), and moderated by Rebeca Arroyo, editor of Expansión.
