Natalia Latorre, Enagás’ Energy Transition General Manager, emphasised the strategic role of European hydrogen interconnections within the energy transition process. “H2med demonstrates how cross-border infrastructure plays a key role in not only decarbonisation, but also competitiveness and energy security”, she said at Connecting Hydrogen Europe, which took place at the RIU Hotel in Madrid on 17 and 18 June.
Natalia Latorre emphasised Europe’s strong commitment to green hydrogen and its infrastructure. In this regard, she highlighted the proposal for the European Commission’s Multiannual Financial Framework , which increases funding for cross-border energy interconnections, such as H2med, by fivefold: from 6 billion to 30 billion euros for the period 2028–2033.
During her talk, the General Manager stressed that hydrogen is firmly established as a priority within the European Union and is increasingly requiring coordination with other technologies and energy vectors. In this regard, she said that the sector has already begun to commit to rolling out networks. “We are no longer just talking about ambition; we are beginning to see real infrastructure, more robust frameworks and a clearer direction,” she added.
