At the 6th Forum of the Alliance of Atlantic Arc Chambers of Commerce (Archam), Enagás’ Director of Strategy and Planning, Mayte Nonay, highlighted the critical role of hydrogen infrastructures in boosting the decarbonisation of industry. The conference, which took place in Santander on Friday 24 April, was closed by the President of the Government of Cantabria, María José Sáenz de Buruaga, and the Lehendakari (President of the Basque Country), Imanol Pradales.
Mayte Nonay emphasised that renewable hydrogen is vital for strengthening the strategic autonomy and industrial competitiveness of Spain and Europe, and that developing infrastructure is a priority.
She added that the Spanish Hydrogen Backbone Network and the H2med corridor are advancing rapidly to connect the main production valleys with major industrial consumption points in Europe. This will position the Iberian Peninsula as a major hub for renewable molecules within the European Union.
Specifically, Cantabria is a key region for the Spanish Hydrogen Backbone Network, with 140 kilometres of pipelines from the Cantabrian Coast Axis, and an underground storage facility.
On Friday 24 April, Nonay participated in a roundtable discussion titled The Atlantic Arc in the New Energy Landscape, alongside the Industry Advisory Committee of the International Energy Forum (IEF), Iván Martén, and Yolanda Fernández, EDP’s Director of Stakeholder Management and Public Affairs. The discussion was moderated by Jesús Lastra, Head of Economics at Diario Montañés.
