Enagás’ Business Development Director, Fernando Impuesto, underlined the key role of carbon management as a strategic pillar for achieving European climate targets. During the business conference ‘CO₂ Capture and Storage in Spain: Necessary Steps for Progress’, held on 28 April and organised by El Economista, Fernando Impuesto emphasised that CO₂ capture is essential for decarbonising sectors such as passenger and freight transport.
The Business Development Director highlighted the crucial role of biogenic CO2 in producing green hydrogen-based fuels such as e-SAF or methanol.
He also pointed out that the development of CO₂ infrastructures is already a reality, highlighting several positive milestones, such as Enagás’ launch of a Call For Interest in CO₂ directed at clusters located in the vicinity of its regasification plants. He also mentioned the creation of Hub COnet2 North, the first project of common interest for developing the logistics chain in northern Spain.
He stressed that CO₂ transport and storage infrastructures are crucial for consolidating a competitive European industry. "Some industries absolutely depend on CO2 capture", said Impuesto, stressing the need for more storage in Spain.
Fernando Impuesto participated in a roundtable discussion moderated by El Economista’s Deputy Director, Rubén Esteller. Other participants included the President of the Spanish CO₂ Technology Platform (PTECO₂), Pedro Mora; Exolum’s SVP of Global Energy Logistics, Nacho Casajús; Técnicas Reunidas’ Head of Low Carbon Business, Joaquín Pérez de Ayala; and XEAL’s Director of the Industrial Division, Justo Trillo.
