Enagás' Director of Strategy and Planning, Mayte Nonay, detailed the development and progress of the Spanish hydrogen backbone network and the H2med corridor during her participation in the IV Conférence Nationale H2 Entreprises held on 17 September at the headquarters of the French Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Technological Sovereignty in Paris. "Hydrogen is essential for decarbonisation and its infrastructure is essential for Europe," she said.
At a round table entitled Infrastructures, distribution et transport de l'hydrogène, Mayte Nonay explained that Enagás envisages around 2,600 km of route for the first axes of the Spanish hydrogen backbone network and a total gross investment of 4.17 billion euros.
Nonay highlighted the role of the backbone as an enabler of the H2med project and the strong support for the corridor from the European Commission and the governments of Portugal, Spain, France and Germany. In this regard, she recalled the 25th Franco-German Council of Ministers held at the end of August, in which both governments described the South-western Hydrogen Corridor - which includes H2med and HY-FEN - as a "flagship project".
"The H2med corridor is vital for Europe's decarbonisation, competitiveness and strategic autonomy," said the Director of Strategy and Planning, adding that the planning of pan-European hydrogen infrastructures is a great opportunity. "Until now, the development of electricity and gas grids has taken place at the national level and, subsequently, with interconnections. We are now going to create a European infrastructure from scratch," she said.
Enagás' Director of Strategy and Planning took part in a round table discussion moderated by journalist Nathalie Croisé, in which the Chairman of France Gaz, Frédéric Martin, and the Director of Hydrogen at Teréga Solutions, Hind Lammari, also took part.
