Demand for natural gas in Spain set a 2013 record on 12 December

13 December 2013

• In recent weeks the annual high has been exceeded on three occasions

• Demand for gas for electricity generation also set a new record yesterday

Demand for natural gas in Spain set a new annual record yesterday, 12 December, of 1,440 GWh, which topped the previous two highs of 1,429 GWh and 1,427 GWh set on 2 December and 28 November, respectively.

This record was due to greater demand for natural gas for electricity generation, which also set a new record yesterday of 362 GWh. The increase is due to a decline in wind power generated and the fact that two nuclear power plants are currently unavailable.

The wind utilisation factor stood at 16% yesterday, compared to the normal figure for this time of year of 31%.

As with the previous records, this new annual high in demand was exceeded comfortably, meeting the entire demand of the System.
