Mayte Nonay, Director of Strategy and Planning at Enagás, pointed to Spain’s standing as the most competitive country in Europe when it comes to the production of renewable hydrogen, due to the quality of its projects and the lowest production costs in Europe. “The price of hydrogen in Spain is currently highly competitive”, she declared during her speech titled "Two key vectors for European energy security" at the 4th Green Hydrogen and Renewable Gases Forum organised by elEconomista in Madrid.
Nonay highlighted our country’s leadership during the second auction conducted by the European Hydrogen Bank. “The results demonstrate Spain’s strategic role. 8 of the 15 winning projects are Spanish. Spain is back on the map and it’s set to play a consolidating role”, she stated.
Infrastructures will form a key part of the development of the hydrogen market. “We’re pioneers, and the recognition of all our Projects of Common Interest (PCI) by the European Union endorses Spain’s conversion into a renewable hydrogen hub”, stressed the Director of Strategy and Planning at Enagás, who added that both the H2med corridor and the Spanish hydrogen backbone network are making significant progress.
Nonay underlined the importance of the Public Participation Plan of the Spanish hydrogen network in fostering more fluid and transparent communication with civil society and the regions. With this project, Enagás is touring the country to provide clear and open information on the Spanish hydrogen network and listening to any related concerns among the general public. “This work to promote awareness-raising and dialogue is the responsibility of the entire sector”, she affirmed.
Nonay took part in a panel discussion chaired by Rubén Esteller, Deputy Director of elEconomista, alongside Cecilia López, Head of Green Energy at Axpo Iberia, Miguel Mayrata, Director of Redexis Renovables, and Olivia Infantes, Director of Regulation and Public Financing of Hydrogen, Derivatives and Clean Energy at Moeve.
