Enagás' Director of Strategy and Planning, Maite Nonay, highlighted Spain's potential to lead the development of renewable hydrogen and the energy transition in Europe, during her speech on 9 April at the 2nd Expansión Energía Conference, held in Madrid. "We have the resources, the technology and the knowledge. If we are able to develop the necessary infrastructures, Spain can play a strategic role in the European energy transition", he said.

Maite Nonay stressed that Spain has the necessary conditions to become a key player in green hydrogen thanks to its capacity to produce renewable hydrogen competitively, the availability of solar and wind resources, as well as the energy infrastructure.

"Renewable hydrogen is an indispensable vector for achieving decarbonisation targets and enhancing security of supply in Europe. Spain meets the conditions to become a key hub for this new energy vector", he stated, in a round table discussion in which he participated together with the President of the Spanish Hydrogen Association (AeH2), Javier Brey; the Director of Global Strategy of Exolum, Nacho Casajús, and the Hydrogen Director of Sener, Nora Castañeda, moderated by the Expansión journalist, Amaia Ormaetxea.

In this regard, he stressed the importance of creating a complete network of infrastructures that includes not only transport but also storage, to guarantee security of supply and provide flexibility to the energy system. "Suitable infrastructure is essential for hydrogen to realise its full potential as an energy solution for industry and heavy mobility", he said.
