How to connect to our transmission network

Below we explain the different types of services we offer third-party users for connection to the Enagás transmission network.

A direct line is a connection between an Enagás transmission network high-pressure pipeline and a pipeline that directly supplies a qualified consumer.

This service allows gas to be supplied at a maximum pressure of 72/80 bar, which is a particularly important technical advantage for some industrial processes, as well as for electricity generation (cogeneration), as it avoids the post-compression of gas.

Enagás places its measuring station, where the metering of natural gas consumption is performed, at the disposal of the end customer. In this case, Enagás is responsible for all periodic meter verifications and calibrations as required under the Rules for the Technical Management of the System (NGTS).

At Enagás, qualified consumers can make use of our experience in the construction and maintenance of transmission pipelines. If you are interested in constructing a Direct Line, please do not hesitate to contact us.

To connect to our transmission network, you must complete the connection request form available on this page and Enagás will provide a response on the viability of the connection within 40 working days. If feasible, the infrastructure connection contract and the measurement protocol will be signed before commencing the connection project; both of these documents are available on this page.

Once the connection facilities have been completed and the commissioning certificate has been obtained, the launch of the facilities will be carried out in coordination with Enagás.

With this service, it is possible to contract the construction or enlargement of a physical connection with a transmission pipeline with an Enagás pipeline.

To do so, the owner of the gas transmission pipeline must complete a connection request using the template available on this page. Once received, Enagás will have 40 business days to provide a response on the viability of the connection. If feasible, the infrastructure connection contract and connection management manual will be signed before commencing the connection project; both of these documents are available on this page.

Once the connection facilities have been completed and the commissioning certificate has been obtained, the launch of the facilities will be carried out in coordination with Enagás. The following requirements must be met before the gas pipeline can be commissioned:

  • A commissioning certificate for the transmission pipeline must be obtained
  • The new facility must be registered in the computer systems of the Technical Manager of the System
  • The gas in the pipeline must have been acquired in accordance with the regulations

Enagás, as the leading natural gas transmission company in Spain, operates more than 45 transmission network connections (PCTT) throughout its network.

With this service, distributors can contract the construction or enlargement of a physical connection between a distribution network and an Enagás gas pipeline.

To do so, the distributor must submit a connection request using the template available on this page.

  • A commissioning certificate for the distribution network must be obtained
  • The new facility must be registered in the computer systems of the Technical Manager of the System
  • The gas in the network must be provided by a shipper. Please refer to the procedure for filling distribution networks, which is available on this page.

The decarbonisation targets set by the European Union have accelerated the pace of promotion and development of renewable gases, including biomethane.

At national level, the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan 2021-2030 (PNIEC) devotes Measure 1.8 to the promotion of renewable gases and sets a biogas annual production target of 10.41 TWh by 2030, including a saving of some 2.1 million tonnes of CO2. The Plan refers to the availability of different types of renewable gases such as –primarily but not exclusively– biogas, biomethane and renewable hydrogen (both in terms of the resource used and the energy used in the production process). The measure provides that the penetration of renewable gas, including biogas, biomethane, renewable hydrogen and others, will be encouraged through the approval of specific plans.

In this context, Enagás is working to adapt its transmission infrastructure to facilitate the injection of biomethane into the network and, through the Green Link service, to lay the foundations for the future injection of renewable hydrogen into the system. The Green Link service allows the different agents in the Gas System to request connection of their biomethane production facilities to the transmission network managed by Enagás.

Through Green Link, Gas System agents can contract modular solutions tailored to their needs, deadlines and budgets. It is a comprehensive and innovative solution that covers the entire infrastructure life cycle (from design to decommissioning). Moreover, it features a marketing model that is active, agile, simple and transparent and offers payment flexibility with different contracting models. It also complies with the high quality standards guaranteed by Enagás.

Do you want to contract this service?

To request the biomethane connection service, interested companies must fill in the request form available. Prior to this, it is required to pay the costs for the preparation of the connection estimate, following the instructions provided in the following link. In order to facilitate the study of the different projects, through this other form it can be requested information on different locations, in order to simplify the study prior to making the application. For Information requests prior to request for connection of biomethane to the Enagás Transporte network, you can submit them through the following link.

Companies interested in requesting a hydrogen connection service must complete the following form.

In compliance with the Spanish regulation (Real Decreto-ley 14/2022, de 1 de agosto, de medidas de sostenibilidad económica en el ámbito del transporte, en materia de becas y ayudas al estudio, así como de medidas de ahorro, eficiencia energética y de reducción de la dependencia energética del gas natural), Enagás will provide a response on the technical-financial  viability of the requested biomethane connection within a maximum period of 40 business days, always trying to reduce this period. If feasible, the documents required to begin the connection process will be signed.
