Enagás joins the United Nations Global Methane Alliance initiative to reduce methane emissions

26 November 2019

Enagás adheres to United Nations Global Methane Alliance initiative and commits to reduce methane emissions from its activity by 45% in 2025 and 60% in 2030 with respect to 2014 figures.

The Global Methane Alliance is an initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Climate & Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), an international coalition spearheaded by Spain, Peru and United Nations organisations and agencies to promote action on air quality and health, fair transition and gender.

Improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are part of Enagás’ Strategic Plan. Since 2014, the company has reduced its global emissions by nearly 50% and methane emissions by 32%, thanks to energy efficiency measures applied at gas infrastructures.

In addition, in 2018 the company signed the “Guiding Principles on Reducing Methane Emissions across the Natural Gas Value Chain”, developed in collaboration with different companies and international institutions related within the energy sector.
