Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition and Commissioner for Competition, visited the liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant operated by Enegás with its CEO Arturo Gonzalo and toured the site for the BarMar compressor station, which will serve as the starting point for the Barcelona-Marseilles underwater pipeline in the European H2med corridor.
The Executive Vice-President of the European Commission viewed the progress of the H2med corridor, promoted by Enagás in partnership with the TSOs of France (Teréga and NaTran), Portugal (REN) and Germany (OGE): Enagás is already performing the pre-FEED engineering work, having launched the process to obtain the official permits. Gustavo Santana, President of Puertos del Estado, Jordi Valls, Fourth Deputy Mayor of Barcelona City Council, Manuel Szapiro, Director of the European Commission Representation in Barcelona, and José Alberto Carbonell, President of the Port of Barcelona, also took part in the visit.
Teresa Ribera also visited a cutting-edge energy efficiency project at the Barcelona plant, namely the LNG cold recovery network that Enagás has set up at the terminal together with Veolia and Barcelona City Council through its EcoEnergies subsidiary. This initiative can distribute the cold from the regasification terminal to factories and consumers in the area, thus optimising energy use and promoting a more sustainable model.
