Fernando Impuesto, Enagás’ Director of Business Development, emphasised the strategic role of renewable ammonia in the decarbonisation of maritime transport during his participation in the 2nd Conference on Renewable Ammonia held in Madrid on 28 October.
As he pointed out, Spain has the opportunity to produce the most competitive ammonia in Europe, thanks to the development of its hydrogen backbone and the huge potential of its renewable energies.
“Spain is in a position to lead the bunkering of green ammonia with its port network and its strategic location on the global maritime routes”, he argued during his speech titled The role of gas infrastructures in the transition towards renewable ammonia, highlighting the use of regasification plants as multi-molecule terminals.
Similarly, the Director of Business Development insisted on the need to establish close cooperation between administrations, ports, energy operators and technologists, backed by a regulatory framework that guarantees safety, traceability and competitiveness.
As for Nerea Chacartegui, Enagás’ Director of Logistical and Commercial Services, she also took part in the event and chaired the debate titled Port authorities, faced with the logistical challenge of renewable ammonia. The panel included Juan Jesús Reyes, Head of the Alternative Fuels and Energy Projects Division at the Port of Algeciras, Rocío López Picón, Head of the Environmental Division at the Port of Huelva, Fermín Rol, Head of the Strategic Projects, Innovation and European Funds Area of the Port Authority of Cartagena, Román Dato, Innovation Agent at the Port of Alicante, Javier Calviño, Head of the Port Development and Public Domain Department at the Port of Ferrol, and Jordi Anglès, Sales Manager at the Port of Tarragona.
