The Chief Executive Officer of Enagás, Arturo Gonzalo, stressed the key role that the company plays in LNG and bioLNG bunkering to advance the decarbonisation of maritime transport. “LNG and bioLNG are essential fuels for sustainable maritime transport,” he noted, at the Gerardo Rojas Forum hosted by the Association of Chemical, Basic and Energy Industries of Huelva (AIQBE in its Spanish initials), Huelva Información media outlet and the Joly Group, which was held in Huelva on 12 March.
The Chief Executive Officer of Enagás emphasised Spain's opportunity to become a strategic enclave in this context, during a subsequent discussion moderated by the Director of Huelva Información, Javier Ronchel. All the company's regasification plants are adapted to supply LNG and bioLNG for bunkering.
“10% of the world's fleet, whether in operation or under construction, can operate on LNG,” he pointed out. Following this event, Enagás unveiled the Alisios LNG ship at the Port of Huelva – belonging to the subsidiary Scale Green Energy and chartered by Axpo – a pioneering vessel that will supply LNG and bioLNG as sustainable fuels for the decarbonisation of maritime transport.
Arturo Gonzalo also highlighted the key role of the Spanish Gas System in the current situation of instability in the Middle East. “We have a gas infrastructure that provides the energy system with great flexibility and diversification,” he asserted, underscoring Spain’s crucial role as main gateway for LNG to Europe.
