DualMetha Biomethanisation System
The DualMetha system, developed by Yann Mercier, is a biomethanisation process based on a combination of solid digestion tanks, which work discontinuously, and a continuous liquid digestion tank. Its peculiarity is that the solids are submerged. The DualMetha model has been designed to simplify the operation of a methanisation unit as much as possible and, at the same time, optimally recover all types of waste.
It is a more economically efficient modular system, which has received the support of the French Agency for Environment and Energy Management (ADEME) through its Investment for the Future Programme (PIA), which has enabled the methaniser's technological principles to be validated.
In technical terms, this immersion process allows for better temperature control and more complete degradation of the material. In addition, the mechanical simplicity and stability of the tanks guarantee the reliability of the unit and allow for a significant reduction in the number of operating interruptions.
Enagás is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050
In its 2020-2026 Strategic Update, Enagás reaffirmed its commitment to energy transition, the circular economy and carbon neutrality. The company has put in place a technical plan, with defined targets and rigorous measurement processes, which has already enabled it to reduce its global emissions by 47% from 2014 to 2018. Looking ahead, it plans to continue to reduce them by a further 25% by 2030, 61% by 2040 and to become carbon neutral by 2050.
As part of the company's role in the energy transition and as a demonstration of its firm commitment to renewable gases that can be transported through the gas pipeline network, Enagás is promoting hydrogen, biogas and biomethane projects for the period 2020-2026. Along these lines, it is also contributing, through Enagás Emprende, its Corporate Entrepreneurship and Open Innovation Programme (which has already supported 12 start-ups), to providing key solutions for the Energy Transition and is committed to the use of natural gas as a fuel in transport, among other initiatives.
The company has reinforced its ranking in the most relevant sustainability indices. Enagás was the only company in its sector in the world to be included in the CDP Climate Change ‘A List’ and, for the twelfth consecutive year, it also appears in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) as a world leader in its sector with Gold Class recognition.
Teréga is a company that promotes methanisation
This agreement is a firm commitment for Teréga and is in line with its values and IMPACTS 2025 business plan.
Faithful to its strategy as an energy transition driver, Teréga aims to make natural gas an optimum energy source for the future and to promote energy development. Together with all gas infrastructure operators, Teréga aims to have 30% of gas consumed from renewable sources by 2035.
Since 2010, Teréga has supported the development of the methanisation sector. Methanisation is defined as the optimal recovery of waste to promote the operation of the circular economy.
Based on its knowledge and experience, the company has already participated in the installation of two methanisation units: BioVilleneuvois, in Lot-et-Garonne (47), which Fonroche has been operating since 2015, and Méthalayou, in Béarn (64), the first methanisation site in the agricultural world to become operational in 2018 in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region.
The company is also involved in the development of the sector by supporting the injection of biomethane into its natural gas transmission network. At the end of January, Teréga officially signed its sixth contract for the connection of biomethane to the Mélusine Energie site in Aillas, in the Gironde region (33).
