Arturo Gonzalo, at the Green Gas Mobility Summit: "Mobility is the sector where hydrogen competitiveness is advancing the fastest"

  • The Enagás CEO highlights the results of the transport sector in the second auction of the European Hydrogen Bank and emphasises the importance of the creation of Scale Green Energy as a key player in the decarbonisation of the sector

Enagás CEO Arturo Gonzalo stressed that mobility is the sector where the gap in competitiveness of renewable hydrogen is closing the fastest. "Transport is increasingly a driver for the development of green hydrogen", he said at the Green Gas Mobility Summit, organised by Gasnam-Neutral Transport and held on 25-26 June in Madrid, in a panel discussion entitled Hydrogen infrastructures, essential for sustainable mobility.

Arturo Gonzalo highlighted the key role of transport in the latest auction of the European Hydrogen Bank: "Transport was the sector with the second highest number of projects submitted to the second auction of the European Hydrogen Bank, with 25%, close to the 34% of industry".

In this regard, he highlighted Spain's leadership in the latest round of financing from the European Hydrogen Bank in terms of projects presented, financing and production price. "Spain is called to lead the new energy map of Europe as a great power of green hydrogen", he said, in a panel that also included the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Jorge Paradela, and which was moderated by the Secretary General of Gasnam-Neutral Transport, Eugenia Sillero.

Gonzalo also highlighted the importance of infrastructures to decarbonise transport and highlighted Enagás' creation of Scale Green Energy as a key player in promoting sustainable mobility. Scale Green Energy's projects include the construction, within the ECOhynet project, of six hydropower plants that have received 100% of the Connecting Europe Facility funds requested from the European Commission. 

 

The General Manager of Infrastructures of Enagás and Vice President of Energy of Gasnam-Neutral Transport, Claudio Rodríguez, also participated as moderator of the panel The challenge of international maritime corridors of new energies, with the Director of Planning and Development of Puertos del Estado, Manuel Arana; the Chief Operations Officer - Cluster Iberica Spain & Portugal of CMA CGM, Iván Almellones; the Senior Consultant Energy Markets & Transactions of DNV, Óscar Blanco, and the General Manager for the Iberian Peninsula & Africa. Marine Power Sales of Wärtsilä, Jesús Puelles. The participants highlighted Spain's position as a leader in the development of LNG and bio-LNG bunkering.

The General Manager of Enagás GTS, María Junco, also highlighted the solidity and flexibility of the Spanish Gas System and the key role of the Guarantees of Origin System (GoO) at the round table From LNG to bioLNG: market, infrastructure and traceability, moderated by the Deputy Director of elEconomista, Rubén Esteller, together with the Director of Energy Transition at Naturgy, Nuria de Lucas; the Head of Gas and LNG Trading at Repsol, Maria Eugenia Suardíaz; the Global Head of LNG and Gas Iberia of Axpo Iberia, Antonio Canseco, and the Senior Manager of Gas Origination & Asset Optimization of BP Gas & Power Iberia, César Mendoza.

During the event, Enagás was the winner in two categories of the 4th edition of the Gasnam Innovation Awards. Enagás GTS has received the Award for the Promotion of Biomethane in the Iberian Peninsula. In addition, Enagás and Scale Green Energy also received the New Fuels Bunkering Infrastructure Leadership of the Year Award.
