Demand for gas as a source of electricity generation increased 5.5% in 2007
Demand for natural gas recorded in 2007 was 408,300 GWh, an increase of 4.3% vs. 2006. Conventional demand (domestic and industrial) grew 3.7% and gas as a source of electricity generation rose 5.5%. In 2007, fourteen 400 MW CCGT groups were added to the network. At the end of the year, there were 53 groups, with a total installed capacity in Spain of 22,990 MW.
The 1,800 GWh ceiling was breached on four occasions, for the first time in December 2007, with record demand of 1,863 GWh hit on 17 December. This is an increase of 12% compared to the previous winter's high.
Specifically, the tariff market declined 13.5% in 2007, in line with expectations. This was due to Order ITC 3992/2007, which eliminated tariffs for group 2 (industrial) from 1 July 2007.
