Yesterday’s record is the fourth registered in the month of January.

Demand for natural gas in Spain reached a new record high of 1,662 Gigawatt hours (GWh) yesterday, January 30th. Of this quantity, 573 GWh were destined towards the electricity market, as a result of high electricity generation using combined cycles to offset low contribution from wind energy.

A figure of 1,574 GWh was recorded last Wednesday 24th and the record was broken again on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th with demand reaching 1,619 GWh and 1,638 GWh respectively.

Natural gas demand yesterday was up 7% on last winter’s record high of 1,552 GWh, registered on February 23rd, 2006.
