The CEO of Enagás, Marcelino Oreja, has received the Innovative Programme Award and Open Innovation Challengers awards granted to Enagás Emprende for being one of the top European companies in terms of supporting entrepreneurship and open innovation.

The awards, which were presented as part of this year’s "Europe's Corporate Startup Stars Awards 2019" ranking, form part of the Startup Europe Partnership (SEP) initiative backed by the European Union. These awards are also part of the SEP Scaleup Summit events organised by the consulting firm Mind the Bridge to promote connections between corporations, startups and 'scaleups' (startups with proven technology and commercial maturity).

"At Enagás, we are committed to the energy transition, and we’re searching for innovation through our intrapreneurship programme, Enagás Emprende, which offers our employees the opportunity to create their own company with our support," said Marcelino Oreja. In addition, he noted that "as a result of its activity, 10% of the company’s employees have participated in Enagás Emprende in just three years, seven internal startups have been launched and, in recent news, we have invested in three external ones this year".

Intrapreneurship is one of the main activities carried out by Enagás Emprende, Enagás’s Corporate Venture Capital for innovative technologies and startup acceleration and investment in the energy transition field, with special focus on areas such as renewable gases (biogas and hydrogen), sustainable mobility, energy efficiency and digitalisation.
