On Monday, the Regional Minister for Economy, Industry and Employment of the Government of Aragon, Marta Gastón, and the CEO of Enagás, Marcelino Oreja signed an agreement to develop projects for renewable gases such as hydrogen, biogas, and biomethane in Madrid.
Furthermore, they visited the company's Control Centre where the operation and supervision of the Spanish gas system is constantly managed in real time, 24 hours a day.

This agreement is part of the Government of Aragon’s objective to promote energy savings and efficiency and the use of renewable energies, while fostering the coherent and effective development of energy infrastructure. In this sense, through the Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón, the regional government is upholding its commitment to develop hydrogen and fuel cells technologies, in particular, as a vector for the storage and management of energy generated primarily from renewable sources. It is also upholding its commitment to link this production with the energy requirements of transport and electric mobility.
Through the Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón, the Government of Aragon’s collaboration with Enagás will also allow for an increase in projects, research, development and innovation in areas such as sustainable mobility or the production of renewable hydrogen.
Enagás currently sponsors different projects for the development of non-electric renewable energies, such as hydrogen, biogas, and biomethane, as new energy solutions that are key to the process of energy transition, and to promote a circular economy. The company is also working on initiatives for the use of natural gas in transport, mainly that of maritime and heavy goods vehicles, in order to improve air quality and reduce emissions.
This past July, Enagás managers visited the Fundación Hidrógeno Aragón facilities, located in the Walqa Technology Park, and formally requested to join the entity’s board of trustees.
Enagás is an international leader in the development, maintenance and operation of gas infrastructure. It is certified by the European Union as an independent gas Transmission System Operator (TSO) and currently operates in eight countries.
The company is present in Aragon with a Technological Centre, which houses the R&D Centre, the Central Laboratory and one Data Processing Centre (DPC). Aragon is also home to infrastructure that is essential to guaranteeing the security of the natural gas supply in Spain: an underground natural gas storage facility in Serrablo, a network of 640 km of high-pressure gas pipelines, a compressor station in Zaragoza, and three transmission centres in Caspe, Serrablo and Zaragoza.
