Record level of natural gas transported in the Spanish Gas System (1,885 GWh)

17 December 2009

Demand for natural gas transported by the Spanish gas system yesterday, 16 December, reached a record level of 1,885 GWh, an increase of 1.1% compared to the previous high of 1,863 GWh, recorded on 17 December, 2007.

Demand in Spain rose to 1,837 GWh and exports totalled 48 GWh.

Conventional demand (domestic and industrial) stood at 1,127 GWh yesterday, an annual high. 711 GWh of total demand went to the electricity market.

The record level seen yesterday was due mainly to the low temperatures recorded in the last few days and the need for natural gas to help meet electricity demand using combined cycle thermal plants.
