Emisores Españoles appoints Rafael Piqueras Chairman, in representation of Enagás

· Sebastián Cuenca is named Vice President in representation of Pharma Mar and Javier Zapata, who gives up his role as Chairman for statutory reasons, moves to the role of Secretary of the association

The Board of Directors of Emisores Españoles, the association comprising listed companies and issuers, has renewed its leadership.

The association has appointed Rafael Piqueras, current Secretary General of Enagás, as its Chairman, and named Sebastián Cuenca, current Secretary General of Pharma Mar, Vice President. The new chairman and vice president had been in the roles of vice president and secretary of the association, respectively, until now.

Javier Zapata, Chairman of the association to date in representation of Banco Popular, has had to give up his role because Banco Popular has ceased to be a member of the association. Emisores Españoles is grateful to Javier Zapata for his dedication to the association during his time as Chairman. Zapata will continue to collaborate with Emisores Españoles in his new role as Secretary of the Board of Directors, which will allow the association to draw on his ample experience for the realisation of the many initiatives embarked on during his time as Chairman.

According to the new Chairman of Emisores Españoles, Rafael Piqueras, ‘The association is in an excellent position; it has met the aims for which it was founded and has gradually increased the number of its members. Emisores Españoles has become an authorised negotiator for the securities market regulators and supervisors, and a habitual mouthpiece for Spanish listed companies in different national and international forums. The renewed leadership also aims to strengthen the management, image and institutional presence of the association”.  

Emisores Españoles represents the interests of issuers and has a relationship of dialogue and cooperation with government agencies, particularly the Spanish securities regulator the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV), as regards the rules, regulation and supervision of the securities market and listed companies. Among its objectives is also that of contributing to the development of high standards of good corporate governance and promotion of communication and commitment between issuers and shareholders.

Among other initiatives, the association has pushed for the recognition of the rights of listed companies to identify their shareholders, and is present in different government advisory bodies.

Emisores Españoles is part of the Europe-wide association European Issuers, which comprises national associations from fourteen different European countries.
