Open Season for the development of new gas interconnection capacity between Spain and France

The South Gas Regional Initiative (S-GRI), which is backed by regulators and companies in the gas sectors of Portugal, France and Spain, has made it a priority to increase the connection capacity between Spain and France.

Enagás, GRTgaz, Naturgás and TIGF, the main gas transport companies in Spain and France, have jointly developed the open season process to identify market demand for new interconnection capacity between these two countries and the coordinated allocation of this capacity to interested parties.

Although in Europe, interconnection capacity is frequently developed through open season processes, this project breaks new ground on account of the number of transporters involved: for the first time four transporters have agreed to sell capacity between four regions with different supply and demand levels through a single process.

The Information Memorandum drafted by the transporters under the supervision of the respective regulatory authorities in Spain and France contains all the relevant information about the open season process and, in particular, the capacities offered on the market, the allocation rules, and the description of the procedure and deadlines for participation in the process.
